Makafui Awuku is a proud alumnus of The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) , a social innovator, an author, a mentor, a soccer trainer and someone who has mad love for volunteering. For the past 15 years, he has been volunteering 9 hours weekly to various social causes.
He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mckingtorch Creatives, a social enterprise registered 8 months ago that is involved in turning plastic waste into arts and other products. The objective of what he does with his team is to change the narrative for Africa with plastic waste and create jobs for the youth through it.
According to Makafui, young people in Ghana need safe spaces to network, exchange ideas, share challenges and brainstorm on how to creatively navigate their way to achieve their dreams. He adds that safe spaces give the youth the opportunity to be all they want to be and change their world without being judged.
“Success means one’s life making an impact on their generation and provoking dreams in others”, he says.
